The police on Friday morning arrested three men for allegedly kidnapping two minors in Lagos.
Olaniyi Wale, Tunde Adeyanju and Lekan Sowaju were arrested around Otunba Bus Stop, Alagbado.
They allegedly abducted two children aged eight and five years, who were walking on the road in search of their mother.
The suspects, it was gathered, accosted the minors (names withhled) and told them to enter their vehicle so that they can take them to their mother.
They reportedly refused to stop at the kid’s house when the children
pointed it to them, insisting that they were taking them to a media
house.
But the trio were intercepted by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and claimed they were on emergency duty.
Not satisfied by reasons they gave when asked on where they were taking the children to, the officers invited the police to arrest them.
Denying the allegation, Sowaju said they only wanted to help the children who “were crying on the road.”
“We did not kidnap them. We saw them crying and stopped to help them. They said their parents were fighting and that they were looking for their mother. I called our chairman, Balogun and we also contacted media houses. We were taking them to Faaji FM and AIT and we have called them.
“When they took us to the police station, people came out, even our chairman was there to confirm he sent us. But the police people said the DPO was not around that our people should come back in the evening, only for them to transfer us here,” he said.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said the children will soon be reunited with their parents.
He urged parents to look after their wards to avoid such scenarios.
