GUARDIOLA FEEL SORRY FOR C.RONALDO: I KNOW HE WANTED BENFICA IN THE SEMIS

The Real Madrid star said he hoped to be drawn with the Portuguese side in the semi-finals, but Bayern Munich crushed his dream when they eliminated them on Wednesday

Pep Guardiola said he was "sorry" for Cristiano Ronaldo after Bayern Munich progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League, ending the Real Madrid star's hopes of facing Benfica in the last four.

A 2-2 draw in Lisbon was enough to send the Bundesliga club through 3-2 on aggregate on Wednesday, while Madrid sealed their place the previous day against Wolfsburg.

Ronaldo admitted after his side's win on Tuesday that he fancied a meeting with the Portuguese club, but Guardiola joked that he was sad to crush the Blancos star's dream.

"I know that Cristiano would have liked Benfica in the semi-finals, I am sorry for him," the coach said to reporters after the game.
